As a mother, I found myself amidst a life-changing focus to protect
what was truly innocent. The need for complete honesty was unveiled
and I began to re-sort my life from this foundation.
After making many difficult shifts in my relationships and activities,
the relatable verse, “I will wear my heart on my sleeve” vividly came to mind.
It quickly morphed from the general feeling-idea of
wearing one’s emotion(s) and/or intention(s) on our sleeve for all to see, into highlighting a simple concept that tributes a transformative way of life, sensing
that maybe "the truth will set us free"
~via a more tangible/understandable way: to just be fully honest
from the inside-out, continuously paving one true, yet not always smooth,
“heart on my sleeve” moment at a time.
As you may or may not know, the "heart on my sleeve" verse is attributed to Shakespeare’s Othello, the Moor of Venice, by the jealous, and scheming, Iago, as he reveals himself and his deceptive plans to the ignorant, and yearning, Roderigo: “For when my outward action doth demonstrate the native act and figure of my heart in compliment extern, ‘tis not long after but I will wear my heart on my sleeve for daws to peck at: I am not what I am”.
As the tragedy unfolds, it inspires an opposite approach to life, so…
Our mission began to reflect and inspire the perpetual quest-ion;
To truly be who we are (I am what I am) - Who am I, truly?
Our sustainably-focused, hand-screened t-shirts reflect what it means to have your heart on your sleeve; It's more than Shakespeare’s expression symbolically transferred
on a sleeve, it's a philosophy!
Shakespeare highlights the value of honesty, ironically, through his characterization of the dis-honest, and scheming, Iago (in Othello, the Moor of Venice). Piggybacking on this display of honesty, we seek to create a fun and
easily-relatable convergence: his expression
printed on a sleeve/tee, with reflections
of living honestly, becoming
the “heart on my sleeve philosophy”.
From the depth of this third-dimension, we welcome you to be a part of the “heart on my sleeve” mission/movement...family, and to simply be honest, from the inside-out, with or without our t-shirts!
